5 Fourth of July Dresses to Shop NOW!

I LOVE July 4th weekend! I go home every year and spend the long weekend on the beach with my friends. My best friend Sam and I share a birthday weekend so we always do something together. This year, Nick and I will be celebrating my birthday in the city and heading to my parents’ Friday morning. We have a dinner reservation at Basilicos Friday night. I can’t wait to eat some yummy seafood and pasta and enjoy some wine! On Saturday, we will probably head to the beach with Sam and our other friends. Sunday is my mom’s birthday, and then Monday we will probably do some apartment shopping before heading back to the city. What does everyone else have planned?

Wellllllll, whatever you have planned, be sure to take advantage of the July 4th sales happening right now and find the perfect look for your plans!

Birthday Shoes!

It’s Monday and I’m actually excited about it. I think it’s going to be a very good week! Bachelorette tonight!! I’m obsessed with this show even though it makes me cringe and I think it’s all fake. But it’s my guilty pleasure (along with wine and cheese and shoes and …) Nick’s birthday is tomorrow (!!!) so we are going out to dinner at Aurora Soho. We’ve never been, so I’m looking forward to trying a new place. We are going to grab a drink at Wilfie and Nell’s first (my favorite bar in the city!! Whose birthday is it?) On Thursday, my manager is taking me to lunch for my birthday (a little early since she is off from work on my actual b-day). Then this weekend, I’m planning on getting my hair done! I blogged awhile back about wanting to get a keratin treatment on my hair, and I think it’s the perfect time to try it out since I’ll be heading home for my birthday/July 4 weekend–I won’t want to fuss with my hair while I’m at the beach and stuff. I bought a Groupon for a place my friend recommends in Soho, so I’m going to book an appointment soon.

In the meantimeeeee…. I am birthday shoe shopping!! I’ve had my eye on a few pairs of Schutz shoes and my parents have offered to buy me a pair for my birthday. I am so excited! But I don’t know which pair to choose…

Outfit of the Day

Soooooo this weekend I made a pretty big decision… I want to 100% re-vamp my blog. I want to re-name it and focus on providing better content/pictures. Her Craves was a name I decided on as a way to share the things (clothes, shoes, products, etc.) that I am currently craving, and while I still love that name, I want my blog to be about more. I want a name that won’t limit my blog and a name that describes me better. I’m still trying to think of a good one but hopefully it will come to me soon. I’ll continue to blog here until then, but when I create my new site and url, I will have Her Craves re-direct automatically to my new blog. When Nick and I move in together, I’m hoping to have him start helping me with my pictures. I think if he takes my picture outside and stuff, you’ll get to see my outfits a little better instead of all of these crappy mirror shots. I’m very excited!! Hope you are too.

My Skincare Routine

This is going to be a long post, but worth it I hope!!

Back in January, I blogged about my skincare routine using Clinique products. While I still love Clinique and continue to use some of their skincare line and other beauty products, I’ve decided to make some changes to my routine. My skin was pretty stable for awhile, but then I started breaking out again. I became frustrated and definitely had a bad few weeks where I just felt like crap about myself and my appearance. After suffering with acne for years and my 24th birthday fast approaching, I’ve decided it’s really time to make a change and invest in myself. I’m not doing this to be vain. I’m doing this because I know I will feel better about myself and my confidence will improve.

So I began researching. I found some posts from some of my favorite bloggers on their skincare routines and products they love: Brooklyn Blonde, Into The Gloss, and my personal favorite skincare and beauty guru: Caroline Hirons. And what did I find in my research? A product line that sounded a bit too-good-to-be-true, but also a product line that is somehow, still relatively unknown despite RAVING reviews. This product line is Biologique Recherche.

Biologique Recherche is a French skincare line and their P50 lotion is their #1 product (you may recognize this from a recent post). This product is known to exfoliate the skin while moisturizing and maintaining your skin’s pH levels. It’s applied very similarly to a toner. Reviews claimed this product makes your skin look brand new–fresh and clean. Also, any product you use after the P50 lotion is said to work, like, 10 times better!

This all sounded great to me, so I decided to give it a try. P50 is not easy to find–any product from this line is not easy to find, actually. I ended up having to make an account at Rescue Spa to order this product online. I had a few more questions about this product, so I emailed customer service. A very friendly woman got in contact with me almost immediately and provided me with answers to my questions, as well as a recommended skincare routine using other products from the line. I decided to order the P50 lotion to start, despite my nerves about “purging”, as well as a serum to combat breakouts.

This woman told me that when starting to use P50, your skin may go through a “purge” period where it breaks out as it attempts to regulate your pH levels and get them back to normal. She said not everyone purges, but if you do, it can last anywhere from 2-8 weeks. Consistent use of the product is required, even during this purge period, in order to speed up the purging process and get your skin back to “normal”.

I crossed my fingers that I wouldn’t purge………. but of course I am. I started using P50 about two weeks ago. I am breaking out more than I have in a long time, yet I feel like my skin is improving. It’s very hard to explain, but I can tell my breakouts are from the product WORKING, and I honestly believe when my purge is done, this product will do wonders for my skin. Rescue Spa also sent me two samples with my purchase: Masque Vivant and Creme Contour Des Yeux Vip O2.

So, for the past two weeks, my skincare routine has been as follows:

DAY: wash my face with a cleansing oil from Clinique, apply P50 lotion, apply Clinique’s acne clearing lotion, and apply moisturizer.

NIGHT: wash my face with Clinique’s cleansing oil, apply P50 lotion, apply the Masque Vivant (aids in effectiveness of P50 while minimizing the “purge”), apply Serum Complexe Iribiol (helps acne scarring and breakouts), apply Clinique’s emergency acne lotion, apply moisturizer, and apply the Creme Contour eye cream.

I’ve loved the difference I’ve noticed in two weeks so much that I went back and ordered more products: Lait U (a cleansing oil) and Serum Placenta (reconstructs and heals the skin). I’m very excited to incorporate these into my routine and see how my skin improves after my purge.

These products are expensive–but so far, very worth it!! I will keep you all posted on my progress if this is a topic that interests you. Let me know and thanks for reading this long post!! 🙂

Outfit of the Day

Sorry for the hiatus! I’ve been so busy at work (I’m in training for my next promotion and the interns started last week) and Nick and I have been busy with apartment stuff. We got approved for a place downtown so we signed the lease and now we’re shopping for furnishings! I am so excited–we move in about a month! Anyway, I decided I didn’t want to write a bunch of posts in advance and schedule them to post because I like giving you all real-time updates. I hate when I write something and it doesn’t post for two weeks. So I need to focus on the quality and not quantity of my posts from now on. Anyway, I’m back!
